Splitflap2 — a giant split-flap board on the beat

A giant airport board whose flaps clatter to the beat and draw the cover.

What Splitflap2 shows

Splitflap2 fills the screen with a split-flap display board, like the ones in stations and airports: 2,304 modules flipping one after another, the half-flap falling, the intermediate cards rolling by before stopping on the right one. Together they form pictures: your album cover in colour dots, the title in giant letters, checkerboards, the time and the tempo.

Every change sweeps the board in a cascade, left to right, from the centre, diagonally, in a spiral or as rain, every module timed on a sixteenth note. On the beat, an empty wave runs along a row; every two bars a new content sweeps the board; on the drop, everything flips at once onto the cover. For house, techno, electro, pop and hip-hop.
