What Fountain shows
Fountain is built from a photograph of a city lake at night, seen from a stone balustrade. A row of forty nozzles crosses the water in perspective; each jet is lit from below by a spotlight in the colours of the album art, is reflected in the lake and falls back as rain that ripples the water.
Like a real musical fountain, every phrase is a figure: a wave of jets from left to right, jets swaying together to the bar, jets crossing in X shapes, pulses on the strong beats, or just a low curtain and mist in the quiet passages. On the drop, every jet shoots up together in a white flash.
