What Oilshow shows
Oilshow recreates the liquid light show of psychedelic concerts: coloured inks and oil between two glass plates set on an overhead projector. Translucent colours blend over a bright background, oil bubbles with sharp edges float and push the inks away, and the projector lens vignettes the round image, grain included.
An unseen projectionist works the plate with the music: every kick presses it at the centre and the colours spread in a ring, the bar gives a finger flick that swirls the inks, the phrase pours a new drop, the mids slowly turn the whole plate. On the drop the plate is shaken for a full bar, then settles.
