What Penrose shows

Penrose draws the famous tiling of thin and thick rhombi, the one that covers the plane without ever repeating, with its five-fold symmetry at the centre of the screen. The edges are neon strokes, and on every rhombus two arcs join those of its neighbours into long continuous curves: the hidden rule that makes the tiling possible, made visible. The rhombi are tinted in ten coloured blacks by type and orientation.

Every bar the picture grows by a golden ratio and the tiling subdivides: new edges are born thin and thicken, never a cut. On every beat a wave leaves the centre and lights the curves it crosses; the highs make the thin rhombi sparkle; the five-petal flowers light up on the strong beats. In build-ups the zoom races; on the drop the tiling deflates one level in a single beat, then dives on. For techno, trance, progressive and psytrance.

Frequently asked

Questions about Penrose

What music does Penrose suit best?

Penrose is designed for techno, trance, progressive, psytrance, ideally between 115 and 150 BPM. Halofloor picks it on its own when a song suits it, and you can also force it from the console.

Is Penrose free?

Penrose is part of Halofloor’s free plan, with no time limit and no credit card. Just open the console and start your music.

Is Penrose a video?

Every frame of Penrose is computed live by your computer from the song’s analysis: tempo, energy, build-ups and drops. It never repeats from one song to the next.

What kind of TV do I need?

Any TV with an HDMI input works, smart or not. The computer renders the visuals and the TV displays them, with no app to install.
