What Cymatics shows

Cymatics shows a dish of water from above, sitting in the dark. The music sets it vibrating and the surface takes the shape of the resonance modes of a round membrane: symmetric lobes and rings, as in cymatics experiments. Three coloured lamps are reflected in the water, and only the slopes that send them back to the eye light up, as thin lines.

A low sound gives simple, wide patterns; a high sound gives fine patterns with many lobes. One pattern melts into the next on the attacks or the beats. On calm music the patterns change slowly in gold and indigo; on intense music they change on every beat. On the drop the wave doubles and the lights turn white.

Questions about Cymatics

What music does Cymatics suit best?

Cymatics is designed for electronic, ambient, house, classical, ideally between 50 and 160 BPM. Halofloor picks it on its own when a song suits it, and you can also force it from the console.

Is Cymatics free?

Cymatics is part of Halofloor’s free plan, with no time limit and no credit card. Just open the console and start your music.

Is Cymatics a video?

Every frame of Cymatics is computed live by your computer from the song’s analysis: tempo, energy, build-ups and drops. It never repeats from one song to the next.

What kind of TV do I need?

Any TV with an HDMI input works, smart or not. The computer renders the visuals and the TV displays them, with no app to install.
