Leviathan — a whale of light in the deep

On screen

What Leviathan shows

Leviathan dives into the deep sea: a huge humpback whale made of tens of thousands of points of blue light slowly crosses the screen, sometimes with its calf close to its flank. You can make out its long pectoral fins, its crescent tail and the grooves of its throat. It swims with a slow wave that runs from head to tail.

Around it, marine snow falls, blurred in the foreground, small jellyfish pulse and faint beams come down from the surface. Halfway through its pass, a big sweep of the tail scatters a cloud of points. Nothing pulses on the beat: the music only sets the brightness of the whale, like breathing, and the density of the snow.
